Sleeping in a made-up bed Strange dreams a guarantee We eat eggs and we eat bread Drink too much beer and coffee Sunlight through the open window falls And Crawls across my face Highlighting all the flaws, never to be erased. And you need to hydrate Because of all the booze and shit, you drank & ate… Last night. Load the van and hit the road Purchase gas and shades Nick Cave is on the radio To guide our morning daze The difference in architecture holds attention slightly more Meaninglessly meaningful Excited yet unsure... The highway hisses by Indulge an English moan Another cloudless sky Think a little about home. Sit on the street Sing on the bridge Swim in the lake with Kat and Nick & Tish Where I had little choice Where I was just one voice… The world has gone to shit As I’m sat here writing this Six hundred miles away wrapped up in my own selfish schtick We’re all phoneys, we’re all dicks And my country makes me sick... But there's the small things too I guess We’re all so beautifully less than we all thought we were A long and steady line Human evolution takes time Wandering the streets Staring at the glow sewn to our hands This modern visual definition of ‘alone’ The Art of Loneliness Seems we have it down to a tee The Art of Loneliness Won’t you login and be lonesome with me? And in the lights .. We’ll glow.

Streets familiar like an old friend, but not so kindly or fond. They stir up many a memory, some of joy, some best forgotten. Baby birds can’t find their way back home A blustery wind it blocks their path As the waves crash upon the rocks my sea salt tears are the aftermath And as I walk this desolation row Unfriendly faces pass me by Alone and happy in my mind A passing Stranger now am I Now onwards, toward the light Thinking about the words I never got to write down Such a sad life and no one around here likes a frown All those things I never got to say The people and the places The ones that got away from me But I’m a lucky boy, it seems. Tried to break me but I fought back Tried to, sedate me with your gloom attack Oh, but for these thoughts in my head The fussing and the fighting, the things that were said .. Maybe all that shit was just a state of mind Manufactured by conditions that you supplied, So readily, oh whoa is me

Sat alone in a London Park again My friends I will wait until it gets dark and what then? And where are you now as I get lost in this crowd .. Of dead eyes My bags on my shoulder, my book in my hand, people watching I’m lonesome but that comes from a change, & these days I feed from my emotions Why won’t it bend, why must it break? I love the trees and all of their twisted forms. I love the old ones best, all gnarly and forlorn. My bags on my shoulder, my book in my hand, people watching I’m lonesome but that comes from a change, & these days I feed from my emotions Why won't it bend, why must it break? And where are you now, as I get lost in this crowd.

This ain’t no trailer for a film No fist clench, rousing, sofa music build This is reality You know you only have yourselves Power = Wealth This is normality It's not the ones upon the stage Shouting from the pedestal Making change United we won't fall Drop your ego Let it go Sisters, brothers Turn the dial back to the start So I can lay down in your open heart and breath Can we take another go This time we'll listen This time we'll know But we offer no guarantees I want to wholly love you But sometimes ... I cannot stand to stand upon you This ain’t no memory of a dream Juxtaposition of a conscious theme This is real It's not the cogs upon the wheel but this raw emotion that we feel that must be seen No, don’t shoot the messenger, we must dig deep We’ve spent far to much time asleep Harness your anger and your ability We must take down the manager of the facility

The lines, seem so blurred these days Uncanny valley in so many ways Our connection to the world .. and what's it worth? One step forward and two steps back A demagogue on a truth attack Just keep your eye on the birds flying high, far above the Earth You drink hard and you drink long Until you pour your heart out into a song But it don't make no difference to your situation Collective endorsement of a liberal state Snorting those likes at an alarming rate Hushed tones, meaningful nods, celebrity obsession with the dead like they’re gods. But tonight He puts his pen down and sighs For he knows the hour has come And this time, he ain’t gonna run Puffs up his chest and gets dressed In the clothes he loves the best Ragged shirt, jeans and coat An old scarf tied around his throat And this is him His moment of recognition She’s finally made the choice To stand up and raise her voice And to whichever end She can no longer pretend And as she turns off all the lights Still not sure if she’s wrong or right Thanks God that she’s no longer torn Hearts nearly break from the warmth As they Step into the night Close your eyes see the blood run We’ll face these floods before they come We are the scientific monkeys and we’re running with the bomb Call your friends, call your family, call anyone.

As I wandered through a murder of crows upon a field A swell in the stomach And a yielding in my eyes I thought of friendship and of solitude As I rambled on unto a place I know, not I Kids are fun but they're annoying the same time They smile so sweet but when they throw their comforts down .. And down again Our little repetitive friends ... That's when my smile begins to turn around Now that may sound cold But I'm as warm as summer rain I love the innocence, the honesty, the fun And I guess my thoughts on this may one day change .. when I find the patience of a saint or the answer to my sum. I want a world, where everything is wild! But I'm held back by these commodities and styles I want it all but perhaps I'm in denial Come back and see me in the morning. I have a loving family and many a good friend I have a girl that I love like laughter I'm still the baby in so many ways But I just need less looking after Now my friends have gone back home and my girl is working hard My brother too, he's a real grafter I was invited to a festival of fun Song and drink and food and laughter I had to decline, this here offer true and kind These people sense something of my nature But these past few years there is one thing I did find. That solitude can be a saviour

about

This debut full-length album from Singer-Songwriter Mock Deer (AKA South London based Ricky Damiani) is the result of 4 years hard graft after a period of hiatus.

As well as including revered previous singles ‘Twisted Forms’ and ‘Your Open Heart’ The Art Of Loneliness carries the gravitas of time, care and commitment that is required to make relevant and expressive art in this busy world.

The LP was recorded with producer Scott Fitzgerald in his home studio in Bath. Ricky and Scott had developed an attuned relationship after working together on Mock Deer’s previous EP and both wanted to collaborate on a piece of work with a full-band sound:

“We wanted to make something epic and ambitious that harked back to albums made in the 70s, with a stronger leaning towards rock and prog than my previous releases. It was a long journey with many challenges along the way, and now I think that the record’s true strength stems from just that - being perfectionistic” - MOCK DEER

Early comparisons to the likes of REM and Fleet Foxes which are most welcome.
